Researchers studied double mutant mice with combined elastic fiber and microfibril defects as a model for Exfoliation Syndrome. These mice showed severe systemic and ocular abnormalities, but not elevated eye pressure, suggesting early retinal dysfunction and a link to systemic diseases.
