Association Between Chronic Kidney Disease and Glaucoma: Results From the Lifelines Cohort Study and UK Biobank.

Liu Wei, Guo Ruru, Wang Siqi, Chen Zekai, Song Mengxue, Faro Valeria Lo et al.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis SciDec 20250 citationsCross-Sectional Study

Contrary to expectations, chronic kidney disease (low eGFR) showed no direct glaucoma association. Instead, higher eGFR was paradoxically linked to increased glaucoma risk in large cohorts, suggesting a complex or inverse relationship warrants further investigation into underlying mechanisms.

Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer and Macular Ganglion Cell-Inner Plexiform Layer Parameters and Their Associated Factors in Cynomolgus Macaques.

Zhang Yuan, Ye Guitong, Chen Kezhe, Huang Shaofen, Xie Rui, Chen Jianqi et al.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis SciSep 20243 citationsCross-Sectional Study

This study found that retinal nerve fiber and macular ganglion cell layer thicknesses in cynomolgus macaques, and their associations with age, axial length, and refractive error, closely resemble humans, validating them as glaucoma models.

Epidemiology of Field of Vision Disorders (eFOVID) study, Western Australia, 1988-2022. Report 1: Data collection and aggregation protocol.

Manners Siobhan, Morgan William, Morlet Nigel, Meuleners Lynn, Liu Wei, Morlet Hector et al.

Clin Exp OphthalmolJul 20242 citationsObservational Study

This study developed a protocol to aggregate 600,000+ visual field tests from Western Australia (1988-2022) into a large, representative database. This resource enables population-level glaucoma research, improving our understanding of visual field disorders.
