Inflammation in Glaucoma: From the back to the front of the eye, and beyond.
Our approach was to explain how para-inflammation is necessary to maintain homoeostasis, and to describe abnormal inflammatory findings observed in glaucomatous patients or in animal glaucoma models, supporting the hypothesis of a dysregulation of the inflammatory balance toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype.
The Eye Drop Preservative Benzalkonium Chloride Potently Induces Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Preferentially Affects LHON Mutant Cells.
Benzalkonium chloride inhibits mitochondria of human corneal epithelial cells and cells bearing LHON mutations at pharmacologically relevant concentrations, and we suggest this is the basis of BAK's ocular toxicity.
An update on continuous-wave cyclophotocoagulation (CW-CPC) and micropulse transscleral laser treatment (MP-TLT) for adult and paediatric refractory glaucoma.
Although they may lead to sight-threatening complications, both CW-TSCPC and ECP seem effective.
Effect of Surgical Intraocular Pressure Lowering on Peripapillary and Macular Vessel Density in Glaucoma Patients: An Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Study.
Optical coherence tomography angiography allowed very limited measurement of intraocular pressure lowering-induced changes on the vessel density of the peripapillary and macular regions in glaucoma patients.
Influence of Treating Ocular Surface Disease on Intraocular Pressure in Glaucoma Patients Intolerant to Their Topical Treatments: A Report of 10 Cases.
The prevalence of OSD in POAG patients is very high, particularly in patients with uncontrolled glaucoma with multiple topical medications.
Preservative-free versus preserved glaucoma eye drops and occurrence of glaucoma surgery. A retrospective study based on the French national health insurance information system, 2008-2016.
We found an association between exposure to glaucoma eye drop preservatives and the prevalence of further glaucoma surgery.
Correlation Between Visual Function and Performance of Simulated Daily Living Activities in Glaucomatous Patients.
The IVF score and the MD of the better eye appeared to better evaluate "reaching and grasping," "face orientation recognition," and "localization of people" simulated tasks, whereas for the "mobility" task, the Esterman VF seemed more useful.
Complications of cosmetic iris implants: French series of 87 eyes.
Several ocular complications with a decreased mean visual acuity were described in a young healthy population. In addition, patient information on the safety of this procedure appeared insufficient.
Correlations Between Subjective Evaluation of Quality of Life, Visual Field Loss, and Performance in Simulated Activities of Daily Living in Glaucoma Patients.
Glaucoma patients showed an alteration of performance in simulated daily living activities, associated with a decreased QoL.
Efficacy of 2 Trabecular Micro-Bypass Stents During Phacoemulsification for Mild to Advanced Primary Open-angle Glaucoma Controlled With Topical Hypotensive Medications.
Patients with mild to advanced glaucoma can benefit from micro-bypass implantation even if their IOP is well controlled with topical hypotensive medications. Expectations for these reductions should be moderate.
The Efficacy of Deep Sclerectomy on Posture-induced Intraocular Pressure Changes.
NPDS is effective in lowering the mean IOP in all body positions and also the postural IOP fluctuations.
Glare and Mobility Performance in Glaucoma: A Pilot Study.
Glare disability was observed in patients with moderate and severe glaucoma and had an impact on their mobility performance.
Expert Consensus Recommendations for the Management of Ocular Surface Inflammation in Patients With Glaucoma.
These recommendations for the management of OSI in glaucoma should be useful to guide decision-making in clinical practice.
A phase III study comparing preservative-free latanoprost eye drop emulsion with preserved latanoprost in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Preservative-free latanoprost eye drop emulsion demonstrated non-inferior IOP-lowering efficacy compared with preserved latanoprost, and improved signs and symptoms of OSD.
Adherence and Persistence on Prostaglandin Analogues for Glaucoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Suboptimal adherence and persistence with PGAs are common, with further decreases as duration lengthens. These findings may underscore the value of procedural glaucoma treatments that do not depend on daily patient engagement with topical medications.
Driving behaviour and visual compensation in glaucoma patients: Evaluation on a driving simulator.
In a virtual driving environment, glaucoma patients exhibited unsafe driving behaviours, despite their driving and eye-scanning compensations.
Short-Term Efficacy and Safety of Phacoemulsification Associated With iStent Inject W in Patients With Controlled Open Angle Glaucoma.
The iStent inject W implanted during phacoemulsification effectively reduces IOP and the number of glaucoma medications needed at 6 months of follow-up, with a favorable safety profile in patients with controlled open angle glaucoma.
A Model to Estimate the Unmedicated Intraocular Pressure of Patients on Glaucoma Medications.
Estimating the IOP change using this model may represent an useful tool to determine the IOP-lowering effect of a glaucoma procedure or treatment when the washout is not ethical or not possible to be performed on patients.
Survey of Patient Understanding and Satisfaction in Glaucoma Filtering Surgery.
Overall, patient understanding was limited, and poor understanding negatively influenced postoperative satisfaction. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE(S): The author(s) have no proprietary or commercial interest in any materials discussed in this article.
Three-Dimensional Microarchitecture of Lamina Cribrosa Pores in High and Normal Tension Glaucoma Using Optical Coherence Tomography.
The LC pores of patients with HTG appear to be more tortuous than the pores of patients with NG, and the pores of patients with NTG are shorter than those of patients with NG.
A Severe Case of Pigmentary Glaucoma in a Child With a Family History of Pigment Dispersion Syndrome.
We report for the first time a severe case of pediatric PG with a family history of PDS.
Evaluation of Blebs After Filtering Surgery With En-Face Anterior-Segment Optical Coherence Tomography: A Pilot Study.
FBs were associated with a higher number of intraepithelial microcysts evaluated with en-face OCT.
Activation of Prostaglandin FP and EP2 Receptors Differently Modulates Myofibroblast Transition in a Model of Adult Primary Human Trabecular Meshwork Cells.
Latanoprost decreased TM collagen accumulation but promoted a contractile phenotype in a source of adult TM cells that could modulate the conventional outflow pathway.
Cyclocoagulation of the ciliary bodies by high-intensity focused ultrasound: a 12-month multicenter study.
The new miniaturized HIFU EyeOP1 delivery device seems to be effective in decreasing IOP in patients with refractory glaucoma. The technology offers a good safety profile. (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT01338467.).
