TGFβ2 Induces the Formation of Cross-Linked Actin Networks (CLANs) in Human Trabecular Meshwork Cells Through the Smad and Non-Smad Dependent Pathways.

Montecchi-Palmer Michela, Bermudez Jaclyn Y, Webber Hannah C, Patel Gaurang C, Clark Abbot F, Mao Weiming

Invest Ophthalmol Vis SciFeb 201757 citationsBasic Science

This study found that TGFβ2, elevated in glaucoma, induces problematic cellular networks (CLANs) in eye drainage cells via multiple pathways. Inhibiting these pathways, especially ROCK, can prevent and even reverse these CLANs, offering potential glaucoma treatments.

Perfusion-cultured bovine anterior segments as an ex vivo model for studying glucocorticoid-induced ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

Mao Weiming, Tovar-Vidales Tara, Yorio Thomas, Wordinger Robert J, Clark Abbot F

Invest Ophthalmol Vis SciOct 201157 citationsBasic Science

Perfusion-cultured bovine eye segments reliably mimic human dexamethasone-induced ocular hypertension and myocilin changes, providing a fast, affordable model for glaucoma research and trabecular outflow mechanisms.
